Parental Involvement

Parents should be involved and assist the CFSC by volunteering for such things as running the music, working on shows and exhibitions, monitoring in the arena and the warm-up room; being willing to serve on committees or the board; and by staying informed through reading materials sent home or posted on the bulletin board. To volunteer, contact any member of our board of directors, either at the rink, or at the phone numbers provided in this handbook.

Please ask questions if you don’t understand something. Come often to the ice arena and stay to observe your child’s progress or to confer with the skating professional.

UPDATED: 01-9-08

Parents of Cortland Figure Skating Club members are asked to volunteer to help with two club-ice times plus either the CFSC 2008 test session (3/16) or our 2008 Exhibition (3/29) during the second session of the 2007-08 skating season (January - March). Parents who fulfill this requirement will receive two free adult admission tickets for the 2008 CFSC Exhibition.

Parents will be asked to sign up for their volunteer time on the CFSC Parent Volunteer Calendar (located on the Club bulletin board), and to sign in and out for each completed volunteer experience. One volunteer work experience is defined as the first 45 minutes of Club ice, plus 10 minutes before Club ice starts, as follows:

• Sunday- 6:20-7:15 P.M.     • Wednesday- 7:05-8:00 P.M.

• Monday- 7:05-8:00 P.M.    • Saturday- 10:05 A.M.-11:00 A.M.

Volunteers will be asked to unlock the Club desk, set out the skater sign in sheet, collect any walk-on fees, and play music at the Pros’ request. Volunteers are not responsible for “babysitting” or monitoring other Club parents’ children. A brief volunteer orientation/training is available upon request to any Board member.

Parents will be responsible for finding their own substitute if they have signed up for a volunteer time slot and are unable to fulfill that commitment.

NOTE: Some additional volunteer time slots during the latter part of Club ice times will be available as we approach the Cicero competition and our test session – specifically to play music.

Volunteer opportunities for the Test Session and Exhibition will be posted on the Club bulletin board. Please feel free to contact any Club Board member with questions about this program.
